Hi everybody i forget my DVR admin password, i don't know how to reset the DVR or how to recover my password there is no reset button in the DVR Note: i already tried to remove the battery and turn on the DVR but the DVR still keeping the old password, imagine that turn on the DVR without battery for one day and turn it off for one day but still keeping the old password, here is a snapshot of its motherboard i want to take your advice regarding one thing: i have a feeling that if i close the circuit in that white thing (called CN8) it will reset the DVR what do you think guys?? That CN8 (Connector 8 I suspect) header looks more like a connector for an external switch or output such as an LED, rather than a jumper connector as it has enclosed sides. I wouldn't advise shorting it with a jumper as you don't know if it's putting out voltage, you could damage the board. Suspect the password for the DVR is stored in the OS, on the HD. It probably runs some form of Linux, it may be possible to remove and image the drive, then mount the cloned drive on a PC and see if you can find the configuration files for the DVR sofware, it may be possible to extract the password that way.
Like S.Lee says, what make is it, that will tell us a lot more. IT lover wrote: HaroldFinch wrote: Suspect the password for the DVR is stored in the OS, on the HD. I don't think that the OS of the DVR is stored on the HD because the HD is used in this case only to save IP camera streaming 24/24, not to store the OS, because i have another model of DVR that is running without HD, what do you think??
I was hoping it would be on the HD, a couple of our DVRs are setup this way, they have a system partition which the OS runs from, on the main drive. Upside of it is you can modify things like password files, downside is if the HD dies, you have to reinitialise the DVR from the setup software. I think Edwin is right, password must be in an EPROM somewhere.

There's no local support where you live?? Cause trolling India can take me 48hrs unfortunately there is no support here or at lease i'm unaware of those guys who sold the DVR to us told us remove the battery and try:( Try contacting the manufacturer directly or posting a pic of it in that CCTV forum, links in my other post above. Those guys seem to be good at identifying obscure models and many will have installed them so may know the reset procedure.

On all of our DVR's, the OS, accounts, and passwords are stored on the board, not on the HDD. If you can't reach the manufacturer, can you find out if a local security company installed it? In our case, a local security company installed the DVR's, and they have their own admin account and password (that can be removed). Edit: Sorry, just read where you contacted the company you bought it from, so the above suggestion will not help. I went back and looked at the manual for our DVR's. In our case, factory default settings are blank for the user ID and password fields.
I found no way of resetting the DVRs to defaults. Edited Oct 19, 2015 at 12:54 UTC. EdwinEekelaers wrote: don't do that yet.
If it defaults back to the initial settings you still don't know the password unless you still have the manual and it's mentioned in there. Do you still have the proof of purchase papers from it? If so don't throw them but keep them at hand. You might need them to get assistance if i can find the right person to talk to for your area yes i still have the invoice of the DVR, but the company that sold us the DVR didn't help us (only suggest to remove the battery).
